Background and Challenge

When the Joey Restaurant Group reached out to us in 2019 for their Manhattan Beach location, it was clear they were a forward-thinking brand with high expectations. That initial project was a learning experience for both teams, helping us understand Joey’s needs, design preferences, and their commitment to elevating the dining experience. Fast forward to 2023, and Joey North Park in Dallas, Texas, marked our fifth collaboration.

“As we’ve worked with Joey over the years, it’s been incredible to see how their wine program has evolved,” says Chris Fletcher, Director of Sales and Design at Harmonic Wine Displays. “Their focus on delivering a seamless guest experience aligns perfectly with what we aim to achieve through our wine displays.”

Precision and Innovation in Design

At the heart of the Joey North Park project was a commitment to precision. The custom wine display needed to fit beneath a decorative ceiling with only a quarter-inch gap—leaving no room for error. “Every dimension had to be perfect,” Chris explains. “We reinforced every step of the fabrication process to make sure the final installation met their exacting standards.”

The project also introduced magnum-sized (1.5-liter) bottle storage for the first time at a Joey location. This required custom rack designs to accommodate the larger bottles, reflecting the group’s evolving wine program and growing guest demand for premium offerings.

Lighting played a critical role in the design, with Harmonic Wine Displays narrowing down the ideal color temperature and placement to accentuate the bottles without overwhelming the space. “You don’t want lighting that’s blinding guests while they’re trying to enjoy their meal,” Chris explains. “We included dimmers and door switches that allow the lights to adjust automatically when the doors are opened or closed. These small touches make a big difference in creating a polished and guest-friendly experience.”

A Display That Defines the Space

One of the highlights of the Joey North Park wine display is its visibility. Positioned as a centerpiece, it can be seen from nearly every angle in the restaurant. “When guests walk in, their eyes are drawn to it immediately,” Chris shares. “It’s more than just a functional storage unit—it’s an integral part of the restaurant’s ambiance.”

Efficient Installation, Seamless Collaboration

What might have been a challenging project was executed with remarkable efficiency. Harmonic’s team completed the installation in just two days, compared to the typical three to five days for most projects. “By the time we got to North Park, we had the process down to a science,” Chris says. “It’s a testament to the great communication and planning between our team and Joey’s.”

A National Standard for Wine Displays

Joey North Park is part of a larger trend within the Joey Restaurant Group. With plans to standardize wine displays across their locations, Joey and Harmonic are working together to create consistent, scalable solutions that enhance their brand. By the end of 2025, Harmonic Wine Displays will be installed in nine Joey locations, including upcoming projects in Toronto, California, and Texas.
